The Freshome Dream Bedroom

Find out what the Freshome staff thinks you need for a dream bedroom. Image: Turnbull Griffin Haesloop

Imagine dreaming in your dream bedroom. At Freshome, we spend a lot of time thinking about exactly that. Because we’re obsessed with design and decor, each person on our team has spent time, energy and – yes – even money creating the ultimate bedroom for each of our personal tastes. And while all of our rooms look pretty different, there are some overarching similarities. In fact, there are some elements we all agree that a dream bedroom needs.

What makes the ideal place for sleeping, lounging and (we can be honest) binging our latest Netflix addiction? Like we said, the little details will look a little different depending on personal preferences, but the key elements are the same. Here are the “big four” to consider when creating your dream bedroom.

dream bedroom - bed

An upholstered bed frame is a cozy touch in any room. Image: Joss & Main

The bed: cushy and cozy

It’s no surprise that none of us are coveting the twin beds of our youths. Instead, the Freshome team is strongly in favor of a king bed (or California king, if you want to go really crazy) where you can spread out and get some quality sleep. And if you’re going to get a big, cushy bed, you might as well frame it well. We’re fans of a grandiose four-poster bed if you’re looking to make a big statement.

Or, if you want to give your room an extra cozy feel, try this upholstered headboard from Pottery Barn or upholstered bed frame from Joss & Main. Adding extra padding around your mattress makes your whole bed feel like a cloud for an extra comfortable place to cozy up.

dream bedroom - bedding

Layered bedding makes your bed look and feel luxurious and gives you the opportunity to swap out accent pieces. This cool-toned bedroom could be warmed up for spring by simply swapping the throw and accent pillow. Image: John Lewis & Partners

The bedding: luxe and layered

When it comes to bedding, it’s all about layering. Finding a duvet you love is a great start, but it’s just the beginning. From there, layer on lots of pillows, including decorative throw pillows in your favorite accent colors, and throws.

Because you’ll want the flexibility to change out your accent pillows and throws with your changing tastes and the seasons, we vote for a neutral duvet cover as your bedding’s base. If you need a simple duvet, this one from Target is ideal to get you started. Think of it as your canvas. You’re the artist – you can use this simple base to create your dream bed! All you need is a little creativity. To spark your greatest ideas, we’ve rounded up some cold-weather bedding and extra luxurious bedding ideas for you.

dream bedroom - storage

Free up more space in your closet by adding storage – and style – to the foot of your bed. Image: Pottery Barn

The closet: big and beautiful

Of course, every single one of us would love to have a walk-in closet. If you’ve got the space, it’s well worth creating an area you can step into when picking out your outfit, or just admiring your wardrobe. A walk-in is easier to keep organized and adds resale value to your home.

But what about those of us who live in a more compact footprint? Even if you don’t have space for a walk-in à la Carrie Bradshaw, you still deserve a closet that looks nice and is easy to use. Closet organizers, like these gorgeous linen ones from The Container Store, can help you transform your closet from ho-hum to oh dang! Switching to thin, velvet-lined hangers can similarly streamline and beautify your wardrobe.

Still feeling cramped? Free up some precious closet space by adding a storage bench – like the one pictured above from Pottery Barn – to the foot of your bed. Not only does this create a great place to stash bulky items like sweaters and blankets, it adds a finishing touch to your bed and gives you a convenient place to put on shoes or drop bags.

dream bedroom - ambiance

Creating the dream bedroom is all about adding touches you love. Image: Studio Revolution

The ambiance: plush and peaceful

Your bedroom is a place of respite. It’s your harbor from the storms of life, a place where you can go to get some peace and quiet when you need it. When creating your dream bedroom, think about your ideal vibe for a place of serenity. That doesn’t have to mean muted tones and dim lighting. Maybe lots of bold colors are what feels most comfortable to you. Your bedroom is your space, so go for it!

We love adding little touches that help create ambiance, like scented candles, cozy textures (like from this softly patterned rug from West Elm) and the right lighting. A number of us agree that plentiful windows looking out onto a spacious, green-filled outdoor area is key in creating a restful, restorative space. If you don’t have windows, however, you can mimic that feel with art you love or mirrors to add light to the room. Ultimately, creating your dream bedroom is all about adding touches that bring you joy.

What would we find in your dream bedroom? A cozy knitted throw? Some eye-catching art? Statement lighting? Let us know in the comments!

7 Ways to Create the Ultimate Cozy Bed This Winter

cozy bed

Layering the right elements helps you create a blissfully cozy bed to enjoy this winter. Image: Period Property Store

We hope you like the products we recommend. Just so you are aware, Freshome may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.

There’s something about the long nights and cold temperatures of winter that make you want to stay in bed. That might be a problem on Monday mornings, but it all balances out because of the luxurious feeling that comes with cozying up in your covers on a chilly winter evening. Or, at least, that’s the idea. But what if your bed isn’t beckoning you as the temps drop? It’s time to incorporate some different elements and create the ultimate cozy bed for yourself.

Seriously, adding just a few elements can transform your bed from a place to sleep to a place to enjoy chilly winter nights and those darker weekend mornings. Grab these items, a good book and a cup of something warm and you’re ready to make the most of the colder months.

cozy bed - bedding

The right bedding makes all the difference when it’s cold outside. Image: Samantha Humphreys Studio

On the bed

Creating a cozy bed starts in an unsurprising place – on the bed itself. Lightweight blankets, be gone! This is the time to go plush, textured and layered to create a luxurious bed you can enjoy all winter.

Consider your comforter

What type of comforter do you have on your bed? If you’ve thought about investing in a fluffy down or down alternative comforter, this is the time. Or, if you’re happy with the aesthetic of your current comforter but want some extra coziness, layer an electric blanket underneath it.

Toss on a throw

A throw can be like a sweater for your bed. We personally love cable-knit (very sweater-y!) and faux fur options for the extra texture and warmth they bring.

Don’t skimp on sheets

You can’t have a cozy bed without sheets that invite you in. Cotton is all well and good, but if you’re looking to upgrade this winter, consider an alternate. Linen adds a great texture to your bed and still works well in summer. Or, if you live in a really chilly climate, swap your summer sheets for flannel ones this season.

And when you’re looking for new sheets, consider a bed skirt as well. If you’ve got a cold metal bedframe, hiding it under a layer of fabric can do wonders for the feel of your bedroom.

cozy bed - rug

Beside the bed

Creating a cozy bed doesn’t have to stop at the perimeter of your mattress. Adding soft, warm elements around your bed helps establish the aesthetic.

Rely on rugs

When you get out of bed, you don’t want to be greeted with a cold floor. Add a soft, plush rug to either side of the bed so your toes can sink into something welcoming. It will make it that much easier to get up for work! We love faux fur for its inviting texture. You can also layer rugs to add a dash of trendiness and extra softness.

Look at lighting

Creating a cozy space is all about ambiance. So, of course, lighting is key. To start, switch out any bright white lighting with soft, warm bulbs in all lamps and overhead lighting. Then, make sure you have a lamp near your bed that you can turn off without getting out of the covers. There’s nothing worse than cozying up for the night only to remember you need to get up to turn off the lights.

cozy bed - accent wall

A dark-colored accent wall can make your bedroom feel like a restful respite. Image: Milward Teverini

Behind the bed

When it comes to establishing your bed this winter, don’t forget the space behind it. Much like a frame can bring out the best elements in a picture, using the area behind your bed can help it really shine.

Get help from your headboard

If you really want to establish a cozy bed, don’t forget one of its most defining features: its headboard. A metal headboard is going to trap cold. A fabric one, on the other hand, adds a layer of softness to your bed. And, fortunately, these are a fairly easy DIY. If you don’t want to swap out your headboard entirely, throw a plush blanket over your headboard to help it blend into your cozy bed.

Add an accent wall

If you really want your bed to pop, an accent wall is just the thing. And, fortunately, this is a style element that works in any season. If you’re looking to make your room feel extra snug, don’t be afraid to go for a dark color. Black is even a great option. The dark wall behind your bed will give your room a secure and intimate feel.

With winter on its way, there’s no better time to invest in creating your ideal cozy bed. What elements are a must-have for you in the winter? Let us know in the comments!

Allswell Review: Is The Allswell The Best Bed-In-A-Box Budget Option?

This article is sponsored by Allswell. While our team received this product free of cost, the opinions and statements below are those of our writer’s experience. Freshome may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.

Did you know that we spend about a third of our lives sleeping? With numbers like those, it’s no surprise that most of us want to invest in a mattress that’s comfy-yet-supportive. However, affordability also has to be a concern. That’s where the bed-in-a-box mattress craze – and the Allswell – come into play.

I’ve had a bed-in-a-box before and, to be honest, I wasn’t impressed. So when Allswell contacted me about the opportunity to try out their namesake offering, I jumped at the chance. I wanted to see once and for all if these budget options are worth it or if it’s better to just save your pennies for the real thing.

Here’s how it went:

allswell

The Allswell is Walmart’s answer to the bed-in-a-box trend. Image: Allswell

What is Allswell?

Allswell is a design-centric home brand under the helm of Walmart. This online-only retailer is meant to be a one-stop shop for all your bedding needs. In addition to the mattresses that we’ll be discussing in this article, Allswell also offers several collections of bedding, all of which were designed by lifestyle experts like HGTV host Genevieve Gorder. Plus, they’re totally Instagram-worthy.

But aesthetics aside, Allswell is concentrated on bringing you quality sleep products at a fraction of the normal price. The brand’s mission statement says it all: “We believe that a luxurious sleep experience shouldn’t come at a luxury price.”

Right now, there are two distinct Allswell products. Image: Allswell

Your Allswell purchase options

The Allswell line has gone through a few changes since its inception in February 2018. As of right now, they offer two distinct options: the Allswell and the Allswell Luxe Hybrid. Here are some specs on each model:

The Allswell

  • $245 – $420, depending on size
  • 10″ thick
  • Hybrid foam and coil technology
  • High-performance memory foams
  • Individually wrapped coils
  • CertiPUR-US® certified foams

The Allswell Luxe Hybrid

  • $295 – $745, depending on size
  • 12″ thick
  • Hybrid foam and coil technology
  • High-performance memory foams
  • Individually wrapped coils
  • CertiPUR-US® certified foams
  • Built-in plush topper
  • Cool-to-the-touch top layer

It’s worth noting that both Allswell offerings come with a 100-night free trial period and a 10-year limited warranty, so if you’re skeptical about buying a bed-in-a-box, the company has your back.

The Allswell set-up process

For my review, I was given the basic Allswell option. But no matter which product you ultimately end up choosing, Allswell is committed to making the set-up process as easy as possible.

For $99, the company offers a “White Glove Service,” which means they will send someone to your home to set the mattress up for you. If you choose to waive your right to the 100-night trial period, they will also remove your old mattress for free. However, if you want to hang onto your trial period, they’ll still take care of your old mattress for an additional $49.

Normally, I’m all for convenience services like these, but this time, I wanted to give you an honest picture of what set-up might look like so I opted out and chose to set up my own mattress instead.

The packaging

Within a few days of ordering, a box arrived at my door that looked like this:

box

The Allswell comes packaged in one neat box.

In case you can’t read it from the picture above, the box comes with a warning.

warning

The warning is true. It’s heavier than it looks.

It says, “BE CAREFUL: I’m heavier than I look.” The warning is true. This sucker is heavy.

I’m not very strong, and I had two people helping me move this mattress up a flight of stairs to my room and it wasn’t easy. I’d say you’d need at least two people to move it. Otherwise, it may be worth investing in the “White Glove” service.

The set-up

Once we got it upstairs, the next step was to check out what was in the box.

tube

The mattress comes all wrapped up in a little tube.

The mattress comes wrapped up in a little vacuum-sealed tube like this.

One interesting thing about my experience was that the mattress was the only thing inside the box. There were no instructions or anything else.

In doing research for this article, I’ve gathered that other reviewers also received instructions and a cutting tool, aimed at helping you open the packaging without accidentally puncturing the mattress inside. I didn’t see anything like that in my box, but it could have been a fluke.

Luckily, I was able to cut through the packaging just fine with scissors and no puncture wounds were sustained. Once you unseal the packaging, this happens:

open

The mattress will begin to inflate as soon as you open it.

The mattress began to inflate pretty much as soon as it was unsealed.

When reading the instructions online later – again, there were no instructions in the box – I learned that I was supposed to have placed the tube in the middle of my bedframe before unsealing it. I imagine that this would have made positioning the mattress even easier, but we were able to lift it on without much of an issue.

When it’s all set, it looks like this:

out of the box

The Allswell, out of the box.

The waiting period

I’ve had bed-in-a-box mattresses before so I knew that they usually need some time to inflate fully before you can sleep on them. I suspected that the Allswell would be the same way, so I did a little digging online.

I was right. On the Allswell website, it says that the mattress should inflate fully within a few minutes of opening, but that the process could take up to 48 hours.

In the end, I chose to wait for the full 48 hours before sleeping on the mattress – and I was glad I did.

inflated

The Allswell, fully inflated.

Hopefully, you can see the difference between this picture and the one above, but I’d say the mattress inflated at least an inch over the two days that I left it to rise.

From there, it was just a matter of putting sheets on and getting ready for bed.

finished

Ready for testing.

The Allswell sleep experience

For my review, I decided to break my mattress experience down into a few, frequently-tested categories. They are:

Firmness and feel

The Allswell is a hybrid memory foam mattress and it certainly sleeps like one. At 4’11” and 104 lbs, I’m smaller than average, but I still sank into the mattress just enough to feel cradled by it. To me, it’s on the softer end of the firmness scale, but I’ve never had a memory foam mattress before, so take that with a grain of salt. That said, I didn’t have any problems sleeping on the mattress and, after about a week, I got used to the feel of the foam topper.

I’m a chronic stomach sleeper, which is probably why I prefer a firmer mattress, but in an effort to give you a thorough review, I made a point of sleeping in a few different positions.

Side sleepers, whose positioning is particularly rough on the joints, will be happy to know that the Allswell provides more-than-sufficient support for your hips, knees and shoulders. I tend to have back pain when I spend all night on my side and, notably, I didn’t this time. Back sleepers, on the other hand, should know that while you do feel cradled by the mattress, I didn’t experience that stuck-in-the-mud feeling that sometimes occurs when sleeping on a super soft mattress.

Motion isolation

Motion isolation refers to how much you can feel your partner’s movements from the other side of the bed. Ideally, a mattress will isolate motion well and your sleep won’t be disturbed if your partner gets up in the middle of the night.

Luckily, the new person I’m dating was kind enough to come over and help me test the Allswell out. All in all, it performed very well. I couldn’t feel small movements like shifting weight at all and could only feel changes of position lightly. I was even able to get out of bed without stirring them.

Edge support

I feel like the edge support test was tailor-made for me. This is essentially an evaluation of how well the mattress springs back after you put your full weight on its edges. I mostly sleep on the very edge of my mattress and I sit on it to get dressed most mornings. Needless to say, my mattress’s edge support gets a workout.

Unfortunately, I did start to notice some slight sloping in the area where I tend to put most of my body weight. It may just be my mattress, but if your mattress edges also put in a lot of hard time, you may want to go with a mattress that has more reinforcement.

Heat retention

I’m one of those people who is always cold, so I’m probably not the best person to be speaking on heat retention. That said, I didn’t have any problems with feeling hot in the middle of the night. However, if you really prefer to feel cool while you sleep, you may want to look into the Luxe Hybrid model. That one comes with a cool-to-the-touch top layer that allows for better airflow.

Off-gassing

Off-gassing, for those who don’t know, is an industry term for a certain odor that is sometimes an unpleasant side effect of bed-in-a-box mattresses. It comes from the way the foam is made, how long it’s left to cure and how long it is in the package. Fortunately, I didn’t have any issue with a smell, especially after I let the mattress sit for two days before using it. However, for those who do, the smell is supposed to disappear within a few days.

Durability

Since the Allswell has only been on the market for less than a year and I’ve only had my model for a few weeks, it’s hard to take a guess at how well the mattress will hold up in the long run. That being said, other than the one spot along the edge of the mattress, I haven’t seen or felt any beginning signs of sagging since I got my mattress.

allswell

The Allswell is an above average mattress option, especially for the price. Image: Allswell

The bottom line

All in all, the Allswell is an above average mattress option, especially when you take the price into account. It performed well in nearly all the areas that I tested. Though it is a little soft for me, personally, I’m going to keep it. It honestly did change my negative opinion on bed-in-a-box mattresses. I would recommend it to anyone who’s in the market.

Enjoy Sweet Dreams With These DIY Headboard Ideas

A headboard is one of the last things you see before you fall asleep and one of the first things you see when you wake up. Demonstrate your unique design style by creating your own. Below are some ideas and tips to get you started.

chalk headboard

Do you think the formula for sleep is on this London bedroom’s headboard? Image: Clifton Interiors Ltd

Chalk headboard

Create this look with a can of black chalkboard paint. Almost any type of wall – drywall, plaster, wood, brick or concrete – will work, as long is it is properly prepped. Chalkboard paint is easy to apply, dries fast and can be cleaned with soap and water. But you’re not limited to the color black – chalkboard paint comes in just about every color. If you don’t want to use paint, consider chalkboard contact paper – and yes, you can use chalk on it.

hockey headboard

An Edmonton hockey-themed room. Image: Cameron Homes

Hockey goal headboard

For the ultimate hockey fan, nothing beats a hockey goal headboard. Complete the scene with a team blanket and life-size decal of a favorite player. Peel and stick decals are easy to apply and available for most major sports. In addition to decals of players, fans can also get team logo decals.

wallpaper headboard

A simply elegant Dorset, England, bedroom uses wallpaper behind the bed. Image: Farrow & Ball

Wallpaper headboard

This Silvergate wallpaper from Farrow & Ball creates a simple yet elegant headboard. The wallpaper is applied directly to the wall. For such an intricate pattern, the company recommends sketching the left side of the headboard in pencil and then cutting it out to use as a template for the right side. This ensures that the two sides are symmetrical. Be sure to prep the wall by removing all dirt, filling any cracks and sanding the wall smooth.

wood headboard

This Sydney, Australia, bedroom is full of surprises. Image: Capital Building

Floating laminate floor headboard

This beautiful headboard is actually a floating laminate floor placed on the wall to mimic a recycled wood wall. While the front and sides of the wall are laminate flooring, the back is plasterboard. The two bedside tables and the faux fireplace are actually painted medium density fiberboards (MDF).

graffiti headboard

This Toronto bedroom is artistic and colorful. Image: Meghan Carter Design, Inc.

Graffiti headboard

Turn your headboard into a work of art. This graffiti design is certainly colorful and creative. For the graffiti look you can also spray paint text on faux brick wallpaper. Use solid vinyl unpasted wallpaper as it’s peelable and easily cleaned. Another idea is to use a large printed tapestry that can be hung on the wall or wrapped around a piece of wood or MDF.

dramatic headboard

This Orlando master bedroom is dramatic, yet relaxing. Image: Studio KW Photography

Frame molding headboard

To create this elegant look, cut molding to the desired size and then drill the pieces to the wall. Molding is available in wood, polystyrene (which is a hard plastic) and MDF. You can then paint the cut molding any color. Molding creates architectural detail and defines each area.

wrought iron headboard

This New York beach house is light and airy. Image: Serenity Design

Wrought iron headboard

Wrought iron headboards are beautiful – and expensive. However, you can find wrought iron railing at flea markets, online and at places that sell outdoor furniture and fences. Unlike some other types of headboard material, wrought iron is durable and easy to clean. While wrought iron is available in a variety of patterns, none of them are bulky, which is an advantage in small spaces.

map headboard

This Mumbai bedroom is stylish and exotic. Image: SAGA Design Architects

Global headboard

The floor-to-ceiling world map in this bedroom serves as the headboard and the focal piece. The map also pulls all of the colors in the room together (including the red pumps on the floor). This type of wall mural requires a smooth surface. In lieu of using a primer, flat latex paint is best for creating the right surface. You’ll also need to mix and apply paste to each panel before hanging.

Warm & Welcoming: 10 Guest Bedroom Essentials

guest bedroom essentials

These 10 guest bedroom essentials will help you make an ideal retreat for your visitors. Image: 2id Interiors

We hope you like the products we recommend. Just so you are aware, Freshome may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.

When decorating your home, the guest bedroom is often an afterthought. After all, why put your favorite pieces in the room you’ll visit the least? Leaving room in your guest room also gives anyone who stays with you the opportunity to spread out and get comfortable in the space. This doesn’t mean the room should feel spartan, though.

There are a few guest bedroom essentials that can help make the space feel welcoming and ensure your guests are comfortable. We’ve put together a handy list of 10 guest bedroom essentials. Add these items to the room to create an ideal retreat for any visitor.

guest bedroom essentials - throw

A cozy throw makes the space feel welcoming – and might help your guests sleep. Image: Crate & Barrel

An extra blanket

If you’ve ever stayed overnight in a chilly room, you’ve probably longed for an extra blanket. Make sure your guests can easily find one. A cozy throw, like the Covella Chunky Throw from Crate & Barrel, laid across the foot of the bed or thrown over a chair ensures your guests are able to get a good night’s rest.

guest bedroom essentials - water

A water carafe on the nightstand is a thoughtful touch. Image: Pottery Barn

Water

No guest likes to have to navigate to the kitchen in the middle of the night for a glass of water. Even if you’ve got nightlights set up, finding a cup in the darkened kitchen is a daunting task. Save your guests the hassle and put some water on their bedside table for them. The Classic Glass Decanter from Pottery Barn has a cup built in so your visitor has everything they need for a refreshing drink in one convenient package.

guest bedroom essentials - clock

A small alarm clock can come in handy for your guests. Image: CB2

A clock

Even though cell phones are omnipresent in our culture, it’s still nice to check the time without lighting up that addictive screen. A small clock in your guest room makes life a little more convenient – and a little less phone-dependent – for your guests. The Charlie Gold Alarm Clock from CB2 even invites them to revisit the days before they set alarms on their phones.

guest bedroom essentials - mirror

Give guests the opportunity to make themselves presentable before facing the world by adding a mirror. Image: Cost Plus World Market

A mirror

If your room doesn’t have a bathroom en suite, you need to add one more item to the list of guest bedroom essentials: a mirror. Without a mirror, you force guests to face you without the opportunity to properly clean the sleep out of their eyes in the morning. Plus, a larger mirror like the Sana Brass Mirror from Cost Plus World Market will help brighten the room.

Make life more convenient for your guests with a bedside lamp that has a USB port. Image: AllModern

A bedside lamp

Nobody likes to have to get out of bed to turn the lights off before going to sleep. Add a lamp to the nightstand so your guests can stay cozy in bed. Plus, the latest technology can help you take your hosting to the next level. This Alperton Table Lamp comes equipped with a USB port to make it easier for your guests to charge their phones. Those little conveniences make all the difference.

guest bedroom essentials - frame

Frame your WiFi password to give guests critical information in a design-forward way. Image: H&M

Your WiFi password

Speaking of digital conveniences, don’t force your guests off the grid. Put your WiFi password in a frame and place it on the nightstand. A classic option like this Metal Frame from H&M (available in black or white) will dress up the information and help draw the eye to it so your visitors can easily connect.

guest bedroom essentials - trash

A trashcan might not seem like a natural fit on a list of guest bedroom essentials, but traveling often creates waste. Give your guests a convenient place to toss boarding passes, granola bar wrappers and water bottles. A compact, nondescript trashcan like this sleek Brabantia Matte Black Step Can from The Container Store will be a welcome addition to travelers without taking over the design of the guest bedroom.

A candle

While some guest bedroom essentials are practical, others are just nice. A lit, softly scented candle welcomes road-weary travelers into their home for the evening. Set a beautiful candle like the Boho Candle from Urban Outfitters on a nightstand and light it just before your guests arrive. The warm glow and welcoming scent lets them know they can relax.

A luggage rack

Travelers come with luggage. Don’t force them to unpack their suitcases on the floor. Add a luggage rack, or a more stylish equivalent like the Mid-Century Storage Bench from West Elm, to the room. An elevated surface where they can access their packed bags makes living in your guest room more comfortable and convenient.

guest bedroom essentials - hangers

Hangers

While a place to put luggage makes inhabiting your guest room more convenient, you don’t want to force your guests to live out of their suitcases. Leave closet space empty (or, at least, mostly empty) and stock it with hotel-quality hangers like these Walnut Wood Hangers from The Container Store. This lets guests know they can make use of the space, helping them get settled into your guest room.

These ten guest bedroom essentials will help you create a comfortable, welcoming space for anyone who visits your home overnight. But this list is by no means comprehensive. We also have a guide to creating the ideal guest bathroom.

What little additions have made you feel especially at home when staying over at a friend or family member’s home? Let us know in the comments.

Fall Head Over Heels for These 16 Headboards

Your bedroom is probably the room in your home that your guests see the least. That doesn’t mean it should be ignored, though. You spend a good part of your day in your bedroom, and you want to be able to wow the occasional guest who walks through. Fortunately, a single addition to your room can completely transform it. It’s time to start shopping headboards.

Adding an interesting headboard creates a focal point in your bedroom. A noteworthy headboard backing your bed is a multifunctional piece. It’s an interesting piece of furniture, it essentially doubles as art and it sets the tone for your room’s design. And your options for headboards are pretty much endless. Here are just a handful of ideas to get you started.

Geometric headboards

If you want to add a layer of visual interest to your bedroom, look no further than a geometric headboard. Different patterns, layers and textures draw the eye while also creating a canvas against which all other elements of the room can play.

Headboards with added height

Larger-than-life headboards define a room, adding a distinguished air and giving the entire space the sense that it’s been well-planned. If you want to make your bedroom look polished without having to buy an entire set of furniture and decor, a sky-high headboard is just the thing.

Headboards with extra width

If adding a tall headboard draws the eye up and makes a room feel open, adding a wide one makes it feel stable and established. And in a room where you go to rest and recuperate, a feeling of groundedness is key. If you’re looking to drop anchor with your bed, check out these wide headboards.

Headboards with storage

If you’re going to go all out with your headboard, why not make it do double-duty? A headboard with built-in storage can help you corral the items that inevitably collect on your nightstand, give a home to extra bedding or even create a place for you to showcase art. Here are just a few ideas to get you started.
